This Week, I Have Nothing to Teach You

My attempt to prove the AI warning about me wrong

Last week, I tried one of those trends where you ask AI to “describe me like you're warning someone about me before they meet me.” The response was pretty accurate—and one of the warnings was that I have a tendency to turn just about everything into a lesson, a coaching philosophy, a newsletter or a presentation. 😂

So this week, I'm going to try something different.

I have nothing to teach you…

Instead, I want to encourage something I've been thinking about lately: have more conversations.

Not conversations where we're waiting for our turn to talk. Not conversations where we're trying to convince someone we're right. And not conversations where we're already thinking about what we're going to say next.

Just listen.

Some of the most interesting things I've learned recently haven't come from a book, podcast or presentation. They've come from sitting across the table from an athletic director talking about his coaches professional development needs and hearing about their experiences, challenges, successes and perspective. They’ve come from observing multiple volleyball practices and not telling coaches what to do but instead picking out the positives and listening to coaches open up about their situations. And they’ve come from having lunch with a great friend, listening to the multiple issues going on in her life, and having her become a great listener and sounding board for my own situations.

Overall, maybe we should all check in more often with others. Call or text someone you haven't talked to lately. Sit down with a friend. Ask someone how they're really doing—and then take the time to listen to the answer.

So that's my newsletter this week.

No coaching lesson-no three takeaways-no challenge for the week.

Just talk to someone, listen a little more, learn something you didn’t know, and enjoy the conversation.

And if you happen to learn something from me along the way, that's okay, too. I promise not to turn it into a newsletter topic!!

Have a great week!
