Yes, Today is July 1!

How is your year going so far??

Good morning, and thanks for taking the time to read my newsletter! I hope you gain something each week and I if you have an idea of a subject you would like to see covered in here, please let me know.

If you look at the calendar (hopefully you switched it or do you not even have a calendar?!), today is July 1….if you are like me, you are probably wondering where the summer has gone?! This is always an exciting week with the July 4th holiday so I wish you a fun and safe holiday week with family and friends.

July 1 marks the 182nd day of the year and means we are half way through the year. I always look at this day as a chance to step back and evaluate our year so far with regards to goals and objectives that we may have had at the beginning of the year-be it something to do with our health/diet, our finances, our careers, or even our personal lives. Are we achieving what we set out to-what is working and what is getting in the way of our success? What actions could we take to get back on track if necessary and really make the 2nd half of the year count? What habits might you want to implement that would positively impact your life?

I must admit that this July 1 hits differently for me as I am OFFICIALLY retired from education and am now shifting to the next phase of life. It does seems strange to not have something pressing to get to or to be looking ahead to the next school year but I am excited to move forward and see what I can accomplish next. I have already been working with an area team on a “habit builder challenge” and it has been a joy to work with them and see a commitment to a process to build positive habits, which will lead to more skills, which will lead to better and more positive results. If you are interested in hearing more about this for yourself or your group, let me know!

My plan for the short term is definitely more rest and relaxation, more outdoor work, and definitely more golf! I am hoping travel and possibly visiting other coaches and sports programs as well as businesses to pick their brains and learn from them is also in the future! If you are interested in traveling with me on some of these journeys, let me know!

However, I have also made intentional plans to work on some habits like writing every day with the plan to finish my 2nd book in the next couple of months as well as build the platform and especially the content and material I want to share through When Life Meets Coaching. I am getting questions about offering basketball skills training sessions so you may be seeing opportunities for athletes for those in the near future. My future will definitely involve being a servant leader-working with coaches, athletes, and other leaders in discovering the challenges they face, presenting and working through solutions with them, celebrating their successes, and adding value to their lives. Jon Gordon talks about needing purpose and vision and actions for a successful life as visions without actions are a mirage!

I have been asked a hundred times “what are you going to do with all of your time now that you are retired?” The best answer is I’m going to keep moving forward to do more things that I’ve always wanted to do as well as well as give back and help others more with their journeys. It’s a bit scary to think about the large change but I’m excited to get started with the next chapter and see where it leads!

How is your year going so far? What do you want to accomplish for the rest of the year? I would challenge you to write down what those things are and then think about what habits you need to build to make sure those accomplishments happen. Being intentional with our time and our efforts is the best way to ensure you will make the progress you want to make.

Happy 4th of July and have a great week!
